Cookie Policy

This policy describes cookies and similar technologies by purpose and category, which is what you are entitled to be told and what stays accurate as the platform changes. We also keep an internal inventory naming every individual item and its exact lifetime, verified against our source code. Section 8 explains how to get it.

This Cookie Policy explains how NextMariner ApS ("NextMariner", "we", "us") uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit or use our website and platform at www.nextmariner.com and associated domains (the "Services"). It should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we process personal data more generally and describes your rights.

The law lets us store cookies on your device without asking where they are strictly necessary for the platform to operate. For every other type of cookie we need your consent. For us, everything non-essential means analytics, and you can change or withdraw your consent at any time (see Section 6).

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website you visit, used to make your experience of the site more efficient. They are widely used to make websites work, or work more efficiently, and to provide information to the site owner. Some cookies are placed by third-party services that appear on our platform.

• First-party cookies are set by NextMariner.
• Third-party cookies are set by another organization, for example a security provider or an embedded-content provider.
• Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser; persistent cookies remain for a set period.

We also use similar technologies that are not strictly cookies:

• Browser storage, which is space your browser gives the site to remember things, either for the current tab or across visits. We use it for your preferences, for what you have just viewed, and to hold anything you have typed but not yet submitted.
• A service worker and its caches, which make the site load faster and keep working through a poor connection.
• Web push subscriptions, created only if you grant browser notification permission, so that we can send you notifications.
• Pixels and web beacons, which may be used in emails to understand whether a message was opened.

Where any of these technologies store or access information on your device, we treat them under the same consent rules as cookies. What matters is the purpose, not the technical mechanism.

Strictly necessary (always active). These are required to provide the Services and stay active at all times. They keep you signed in and your session secure, remember the cookie choice you made so we do not ask again, tell your other open tabs when you sign in or out, let a page recover cleanly when it fails to load, and hold on to anything you have typed but not yet submitted so a closed tab does not lose your work. These do not require consent. Blocking them will prevent you from signing in.

Preferences (active). These remember how you like the site to behave: your language, your light or dark appearance, whether you are acting as yourself or on behalf of an organization you manage, which one-time tips you have already seen, where you had scrolled to, and how far you had read your notifications. They are first-party, contain no tracking identifier, and are not shared.

Analytics and performance (consent only). These help us understand which parts of the Services are used so we can improve them. Our analytics are first-party and built to hold as little about you as possible. We use no third-party analytics or advertising platform, and nothing about your use of the Services is sent to an advertising network. For visitors who are not signed in, we use a random marker so that repeat visits count as one person rather than many, and any network address or browser type is stored only as an irreversible scrambled value, never in a form we can read back; the scrambling key is changed regularly, so even the scrambled value does not stay linkable for long. For signed-in members, network address and browser type are not stored against usage data at all. Web addresses are recorded without anything after the question mark, so searches you type are not carried into analytics.

Security (as required). When you register or reset your password, we may present a challenge to tell people apart from automated attacks. Where such a challenge is active, the provider sets its own short-lived cookies.

Embedded content (third-party). Some posts and messages embed media from third parties, for example YouTube, Vimeo, Spotify, SoundCloud or Twitch. When such content is displayed, the provider may set its own cookies, governed by that provider's cookie and privacy policy, not ours. Separately, our voyage maps load map imagery from a third-party map service; that sets no cookie, but the request itself necessarily tells the map service your network address, as loading any image from another site does.

Sign-in cookies last as long as your session and are removed when you sign out. Preference and consent cookies last up to twelve months, so that we do not keep asking you the same question. Session-only storage disappears when you close the tab. The anonymous analytics marker lasts up to twelve months, and the usage data behind it is kept in aggregate form and then deleted.

We give durations by category rather than item by item so that what you read here is current rather than whatever was accurate when this page was last edited. The exact lifetime of each individual cookie and storage item is held in the detailed inventory described in Section 8.

Strictly necessary cookies are used on the basis of our legitimate interest in providing a secure, functioning service and, where applicable, the strictly necessary exemption under the ePrivacy rules; they do not require consent. Preference items are first-party, carry no tracking identifier, and exist only because you asked the site to remember something.

Analytics cookies and other non-essential cookies and technologies are used only with your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR and the ePrivacy consent requirement). You may withdraw consent at any time; withdrawal does not affect processing carried out before withdrawal.

Giving consent. You can give or refuse consent when we ask you, either through the consent notice on the site or as part of creating an account. We record your answer so that you are not asked repeatedly.

Which domains your consent covers. A choice you make applies to www.nextmariner.com and the associated NextMariner domains and applications through which we provide the Services. It does not extend to any third-party site you reach by following a link from ours.

Privacy settings. If you have an account, you can change your analytics choice at any time under Settings, then Privacy. Withdrawing analytics consent clears the anonymous analytics identifier from your browser straight away.

If you never answer. Nothing is collected. Our default is off: with no recorded consent, no analytics cookie or analytics storage is written and no usage data is sent. This is enforced twice, once in your browser and again on our servers, which reject usage data belonging to anyone who has opted out.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. We do not act on these browser signals separately, because there is nothing for them to switch off: we do not place non-essential cookies or storage unless you have already said yes.

Browser controls. Most browsers let you view, block or delete cookies and clear site storage through their settings. Please note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in and using core features.

Third-party opt-outs. Cookies set by embedded-content providers are controlled by those providers; see their respective cookie and privacy policies to manage them.

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the technologies we use or for legal reasons. We will post the updated version here and update the effective date. Where required, we will seek renewed consent.

If you contact us about a consent you have given or withdrawn, please tell us the approximate date and the account or e-mail address you used. We do not issue consent ID numbers, so that is what lets us find the record of your choice.

We maintain a detailed inventory naming every cookie and browser-storage item, its exact lifetime and its category, verified against our source code and reviewed on a schedule. It is available on request to members, regulators and business customers conducting due diligence.

If you are in the EU or EEA and are unsatisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet, www.datatilsynet.dk).
